On February 11, the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil will perform a concert at Trees Dallas.
Normally, I would not be a fan of heavy metal, but I will make an exception for this band. After seeing their documentary, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, I am curious to see how they sound in person. Any band that is willing to put themselves on the big screen like that is alright in my book.
Anvil formed in 1978, and these rockers are still head banging today. Not that many bands have lasted that long, yet Anvil continues to book tours across the world. The members are:
- Steve "Lips" Kudlow (lead vocals, lead guitar)
- Glenn Five (bass guitar, vocals)
- Robb Reiner (drums)
Their 30 plus years of music includes 14 released albums, a 2008 documentary, and countless incidents of head banging whiplash. Their hard, thrashing sound has influenced a lot of famous metal groups such as Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer, many of whom were interviewed on camera for the documentary.
The Dallas show will also feature Revengeance and Age of Fire. Revengeance is a younger, fresh-out-of-high-school, barely-legal metal band from Dallas. Age of Fire has been on the since since 2008, another rookie group. It will be interesting to see how these young sounds blend in with a long-standing metal group. Any heavy metal lover should definitely check out this show. Tickets range in price from $15 to $20 and can be purchased from Trees Dallas.
This is an all-ages show, so bring the kiddos! It's never too early to start head banging with the parents. Doors open at 7pm on Saturday, February 11. See you at Trees Dallas!
